Research - John Virtue and Deanna Petherbridge

At first glance, the work of these two artists could not be any more different despite both being monochromatic but yet there are similarities.

In the image above by Virtue it's hard to determine a focal point nor easily determine what the image represents. There is a clear path through the image for us but it appears to lead us nowhere.

Similarly in Petherbridges image above, although much more geometric as opposed to Virtures atmospheric image, again it's hard to determine a focal point nor determine a path despite several options being available.

Both images are utterly compelling and visually arresting, perhaps because in neither there is one single place for the eye to rest.

Interesting that both chose not to include everything they could see, this was not to be representative. Rather it feels like a synopsis of the situation based on what each artist felt was important.
