Quentin Monge copy
Finding some really nice prints on the Room Fifty print shop so decided I am going to try and emulate some of them to get an idea of shape and colour application. All feeding into these first exercises and helping me get to grips with those areas I struggle with - namely colour and composition.
I appreciate this is unrefined, rough even, but the point wasn't perfection but rather to explore how he layers colours and shapes.
Something I took from it was that he isn't 100% tied to what is a highlight or a shadow and he just uses colour to emphasise the shapes he wants to regardless if they should be dark or light. Skin colours don't have to be consistent. However he does seem to be fairly true to body and feature shapes.
